Become strong and confident in French with this second-year course. Since so many English words are derived from French, students will also experience improved overall vocabulary.
More than 220 million people speak French on all five continents. Therefore, the ability to speak French is an advantage on the international job market. It is a culture that has influenced the Western World, and the Americas, and it is a beautiful and fun language to learn.
In Part One, we will review present, imperative, and futur proche verb tenses, regular 1st, 2nd verb groups, and irregular verbs in the 3rd group, avoir et être- learn imparfait, expressions with avoir/faire, difference between savoir/connaitre and vivre/habiter; vocabulary words about telling time, sports and games, travel, places and nationalities, natural places; in grammar we will look at indefinite pronouns, demonstrative pronouns, comparing with adverbs, difference between bien/bon, mal/mauvais.
The fall semester will cover lessons 1-18, with weekly assignments and quizzes, three tests, and a final project. The final project consists of a written composition from the student followed by an oral presentation of approximately 2 minutes.
Week One: Greetings, explaining syllabus, Moodle, grading, reviewing regular verbs, avoir/être, and introducing oneself to each other, telling time;
Week Two: Sports and games, conjunctions, review negatives;
Week Three: Shopping for clothes, review of imperatives verb tense;
Week Four: Travel, Review of passé compose verb tense;
Week Five: Review 1 Test 1
Week Six: Pronouns
Week Seven: Comparing, Place names, transportation;
Week Eight: Nationalities, comparing with adverbs;
Week Nine: Review 2, Test 2;
Week Ten: L’imparfait verb tense;
Week Eleven: L’imparfait part two
Week Twelve: Expressions with avoir and faire, differentiate savoir/connaître and habiter/vivre;
Week Thirteen: Vocabulary review, verb review, prepare for Test 3.

Homework: Learning a second language is demanding. Depending on your goals, a minimum of 30 minutes a day is recommended. To help the memorization of the vocabulary words and grammar rules, different exercises have been developed for this class. There are: recordings for the vocabulary words, or the lesson of the week, the student can listen and repeat what he hears to develop his speech; quizlet sets help him to memorize the meaning of words, their grammatical gender, their spelling and associations with other words; quizzes on Moodle; and of course, the exercises from the Student book. Each week, a unique assignment has been created by the teacher for grading purposes, except the week the students have a test.
