Prerequisite: Wheelock’s Beginning Latin or Middle School Advanced Latin – Ecce Romani with an 80% or higher on the Part Two final. If students have not taken Latin with Homeschool Connections, they will need a score of 80% or higher on the required entrance exam (Email [email protected] for the exam. There is a small administrative fee for the exam.)

Students interested in continuing their Latin journey will find that Wheelock’s Intermediate Latin is the right class for them! This course will focus on deepening students’ understanding of intermediate Latin grammar, vocabulary, translation skills, and the history behind this beautiful language. In-class activities, Quizlet, and other materials supplemented by the instructor will encourage good study habits. The textbook, Wheelock’s Latin, will be the overarching guide for the course. Students will explore both Ecclesiastical and Classical pronunciations.

Week Two: Genitive of the Whole, Ablative with Numerals and Time, Caput XV
Week Three: Third Declension Adjectives, Caput XVI
Week Four: The Relative Pronoun, Caput XVII
Week Five: The Passive Voice – Present System First and Second Conjugations, Ablative of Agent, Caput XVIII
Week Six: Practice Day! Review
Week Seven: Perfect Passive System – All Conjugations, Caput XIX. Additional Recorded Lesson: Interrogative Pronouns and Adjectives, Caput XIX
Week Eight: Fourth Declension, Ablatives of Place from Which and Separation, Caput XX
Week Nine: Present Passive System Third and Fourth Conjugations, Caput XXI
Week Ten: Fifth Declension, Ablative of Place Where and Summary of Ablatives, Vergil’s Messianic Eclogue (pg. 173), Caput XXII
Week Eleven: Participles, Part 1, Additional Recorded Lesson: Participles, Part 2, Caput XXIII
Week Twelve: Review & Final Exam
Course materials: Wheelock’s Latin 7th Edition, ISBN: 0061997226 (http://amzn.to/2EmRAfV). A Latin dictionary with Latin to English and English to Latin sections (such as http://amzn.to/2BEmygM). Students need to have a functioning headset with a microphone.
Homework: Students can expect to spend 1-2 hours a week on homework assignments. There will be quizzes and exams to help assess students’ understanding of the material.
